Critique Corner

The Critique Corner aims to help members to fine-tune potential
entries by gaining feedback from other members before the image is entered into
a competition.

All members, regardless
of experience are encouraged to upload images and make comments on
images.  The aim is to help each other to develop both your image capture
and processing skills, and to take the judges’ point of view when
assessing an image. There are no grades within this activity.

Each member can upload
one image.  Once uploaded you can use this image in an upcoming
competition.  You can remove the image and replace it with another image
whenever you choose.

The critique corner is
accessible from the Members page (use the grey Members button) as shown below:

This is a new MyPhotoClub feature so feedback to colin@myphotoclub.com.au is welcome. All members are subscribed
to receive a once a day notification message when new images are submitted. Go
to the Critique Corner to unsubscribe.

More information,
including a video, is on the Critique Corner page.

Your chance to cast a cast a vote on your favourite image.

Our site has the option of allowing members to vote on their favourite image from a competition. To see if you are interested in getting right what a judge may have got wrong, I have opened up the January competition to voting.

You get 1 vote only for your favourite image. Before next competition night on Feb 11, I will remove the voting option, tally up the votes, and we can announce the Member’s Choice. If members show interest in voting for the Member’s Choice award, we can do it as a regular thing, and perhaps give a small certificate like the gold and silver award cards.

Go on, you know you want to. Get right what the judges get wrong and cast your vote today. Just go into the member’s area and vote.

Image Challenge changes

Previously images for the Image Challenge held on Skills Nights were sent by email to Graham Harris. If you have already sent images to Graham, I can find these.

If you haven’t yet sent images, please go to the website and enter the Image Challenge competition for January. This is just the same as entering a club competition. You will find the same 3 sections as for previous Image Challenges – the image challenge theme (Christmas for January), favourites and field days. You can enter 5 images for each section, 15 in total as previously.

Cut-off date is Friday January 24, and the cut-off date for all future image challenges will be the Friday of the 3rd week before the 4th Tuesday when Skills Nights and image challenges are held.

I apologise for any confusion this may cause during the transition period, but putting the image challenges onto our Myphotoclub site was a change that was always intended.

Changes to Skills Night

The first Skills Night for the year will be at De Molay House on Tuesday Jan 28. The theme is “Forced Perspective” ahead of a field day on that topic to be held in February.

The Image Challenge is “Christmas”. You may enter 5 images on this topic, 5 on field days and 5 for favourites as previously. Graham Harris is stepping down from his roles in TPS due to illness, and all of us thank him for his many years of hard work and service to our club. If you haven’t already sent images to Graham, please send to REDACTED at REDACTED@bigpond.com by FRIDAY 24th.

REDACTED is not as proficient with a/v software as Graham, and would appreciate the weekend before each Skills Night to prepare the Image Challenge presentation.

The first Jilly’s Cafe meeting for 2020 will be next Tuesday Jan 21st at 6pm. The topic will be “Holding the camera steady – from hand-held to tripod”, and will be presented by Tryg Helander. Jilly’s is at 181 Margaret Street, gold coin for notes.

Alice Black – January 2020.

To perpetuate the memory of our late member Alice Black, the club has introduced the ‘Alice Black Memorial Trophy’ to be contested each year on a perpetual basis.

At each month’s Aggregate Competition the judge will select an image from all those entered as the monthly Alice Black Image – they will use their own criteria to select the image regardless of the score given.  All images submitted in the Aggregate Competition have the potential to become a possible winner of the Trophy as there is no restriction on the grade of the entrant or the medium in which the image is presented.

For January 2020 the Alice Black has been awarded to REDACTED for his image “The Silk Road at Dunhuang”.  This image was entered in the A Grade Open Digital section.
