After a long exhausting day, your committee and tireless volunteers made a profit of $971.50

Considering the weather, this is outstanding!

Thank you to all those who assisted today. Your efforts have showcased what we can do as a well-oiled team. You are the backbone of our society.

Thanks too, to those who came down to volunteer last minute and to those who just came to cheer us on and buy lunch. Appreciate you all.

Very well done Team TPS!

Alice Black Award – October 2018 – “Autumn Morn” by Graham Burstow

To perpetuate the memory of our late member Alice Black, the club has introduced the ‘Alice Black Memorial Trophy’ to be contested each year on a perpetual basis.

At each month’s Aggregate Competition the judge will select an image from all those entered as the monthly Alice Black Image – they will use their own criteria to select the image regardless of the score given.  All images submitted in the Aggregate Competition have the potential to become a possible winner of the Trophy as there is no restriction on the grade of the entrant or the medium in which the image is presented.

For October 2018 the Alice Black has been awarded to Graham Burstow for his print “Autumn Morn”.  This image was entered in the Salon Grade Mono Set Subject: “Garden City” Print section.

Our judge, Margaret O’Grady commented “Wonderful story of the garden city … simple and powerful.  The shafts of light add a diagonal pattern that work to bring the eye to the child.  Very effective use of light and shadow.”

Alice Black Award – September 2018 – “Morning Coffee” by Sandra Neill

To perpetuate the memory of our late member Alice Black, the club has introduced the ‘Alice Black Memorial Trophy’ to be contested each year on a perpetual basis.

At each month’s Aggregate Competition the judge will select an image from all those entered as the monthly Alice Black Image – they will use their own criteria to select the image regardless of the score given.  All images submitted in the Aggregate Competition have the potential to become a possible winner of the Trophy as there is no restriction on the grade of the entrant or the medium in which the image is presented.

For August 2018 the Alice Black has been awarded to Sandra Neill for her print “Morning Coffee”.  This image was entered in the A Grade Mono Set Subject: “Shadows” Print section.

Our judge, Barry Whisson commented “This image has been very carefully staged to put the planter & it’s bowl in massing-counterbalance with the jug and cup, such that you couldn’t have wished for a better combination of shadows…the soft and the hard. The planks of the table provide a texture (of fine line & also surface), and they lend scale to the shot. Look at the subtle part that the small branch (& it’s shadow) play to take our eye to the subject! There’s a great, simple, non-competitive background too. What a so-simple but effective still life. Any improvement?… maybe not having decapitated that lovely plant at the top…but I’m being fussy. It’s OK. Tonal range is just right! Well composed shot! “
