Multi-Club Memberships & Competitions

All,

Please note the following notice from Ralph Brown – President of the Photographic Society of Queensland.

This is in regards to members of PSQ affiliated clubs who are members of multiple clubs.

Excerpt as follows:
A question was raised at the last committee meeting about how to best manage entries into interclub competitions from members who are in more than one club.

This is our recommendation: –

Anyone who is a member of more than one club must designate one club as their primary when entering into interclub competitions and notify their other clubs that their images cannot be used for that club’s interclub entries.

This includes the Salon of Excellence (SEQ), the Qld Interclub, River City Print, Tewantin Shield, the Three-way (north Brisbane) and any other competition where the members must designate the club affiliation.

We considered this the fairest way to ensure that all members have an equal opportunity when entering these competitions.
End Excerpt:

Should you have multiple memberships across the PSQ clubs, if you wish to represent the Toowoomba Photographic Society as your primary club, you must notify the committee.

This can be done by emailing:
committee@tpsi.org.au

Recordings Uploaded

Dear Members,

This weekend, I have uploaded the remainder of the video recordings from this years Judging Nights, Guest Speakers, Lightroom/Photoshop Masterclasses, Other External and Trans-Tasman Comps.
You can find all of these here:
https://toowoomba.myphotoclub.com.au/tps-recordings/

General Notices & Club Information:

2024 Set Subjects & Competition:
The 2024 subjects and guidelines have been completed, the competitions have been created on MyPhotoClub and are ready for you to upload entries.

To find the competitions, please go to our MyPhotoClub website, https://toowoomba.myphotoclub.com.au/ and go into the “Members” Section.

Top right of this section you should see a “Year Selector” – click on 2024.

There you will find all of the competitions and their set subjects.

To find what the guidelines are for each competition, click on the link in the description that says – “Set Subject Definitions”

Which will then take you to our “Purple” website with the details.

Changes to Entry Order

Please note a change in order of section entries, the digitals will now show before the prints. This will hopefully prevent incorrect entries of digitals into the prints sections.

Volunteers

We are always looking for members to volunteer to assist with the general running of the society. Some of these will significantly lighten the load for your committee members which will then allow them to concentrate more on member training, up-skilling and other opportunities to benefit the overall running of the society.
Some areas which we are particularly looking for are:

  • Member Run Skills Nights
  • Field Day / Outings Co-ordinator
  • Community Engagement Co-ordinator
  • Social Media Co-ordinator
  • Hall night setup
  • Visual Media Setup (Laptop, projector etc)

If you would like to nominate yourself, please fill in this form to express your interest:
https://tpsi.org.au/volunteers/

Print Night 2024: We are planning to hold a “print only” night in January 2024 where we will encourage all members to enter their images as prints. John Stewart has agreed to judge the imagery for us. For this night there will be no requirement to mount the prints. Details to be released regarding this after 19/12/2023.

Club Member Name Badges: A new member name badge has been developed, we encourage all members to purchase for face to face meetings and outings:

Membership Fee Invoices

Dear Members,

Please be advised that the invoices for 2024 have just been sent out. Please check your emails for the invoice including junk mail if you are unable to locate it.

Please note an increase in fees for 2024, more in-depth details as follows:

The Committee has been diligent is trying to reduce costs as much as possible and regularly reviews all expenditure.  We have moved from printing and mailing (which is both expensive and time consuming) to more electronic means.   There is very little left to trim.

In addition, historically the Society has undertaken a number of fund-raising activities throughout the year.  These have been in decline as it has proven difficult to recruit members to assist.  Our major fundraising activity is generally from ticket sales for the Theatre Night which was to be in September.  This was subsequently cancelled due to the lack of uptake of tickets with only one person purchasing tickets.  We need to sell at least 25 tickets to break even for the night.  Had the Committee not cancelled the booking with the Toowoomba Reformatory at this time, we would have incurred a hefty cancellation fee.

At the last Committee Meeting (Nov 2023), and after much discussion, the Committee decided that the fees for the 2024 Annual Membership would be increased in the Concession and Individual Membership Categories.  While in general terms, the Committee acknowledged that while the cost of living had increased across the board, so too have costs to the Society, in particular our rental costs for DeMolay House.  The Society also subsides the cost of members shirts as well as meeting the costs of catering, trophies and awards and equipment purchases, all of which have risen in price.  The Committee also noted that fees in 2004/2005 were $35 for an Individual and $20 for Concession/Student.  In addition to this, there was a $2 surcharge at each meeting which was rolled into the annual membership fee in 2020.  For 2024, an Individual Member pays less than $2 per week.
