What Should you Bring?

  • Sunscreen
  • Hat
  • Chair/s
  • Water
  • Umbrella or some other form of small shade
  • Food
  • Sunglasses
  • Camera, batteries, memory cards
  • Monopod (can help but not required)
  • Tripod (if you dont have a mono, but can be quite restrictive)
  • Filters
Bring ND Filters and Circular Polarising Filters if you have them. These will help with slower shutter speed shots.
  • Lenses:
  • Generally, bring one wide, one mid range, and one telephoto.
  • Wide Angle
  • These can be good for pit shots, portraits etc.
  • Midrange:
  • I generally explain these as 55mm to around 100 mm
  • Telephoto
  • Usually 100mm and above.
  • These will generally be best for track work.

How to get there from Toowoomba:

What will we be focusing on?
A wide range of photographic techniques can be used at the track, some topics as follows:

  • Portraits (drivers, pit crew, officials, spectators).
  • Documentary (wide angle shots of the track, facilities)
  • Track Shots – We will teach the difference between fast, and slow shutter photography.
  • Panning vs Static – alongside the above, panning vs static shots if often debated in this type of photography and up to personal preference.

How should I prepare?
Make sure your camera batteries are charged up ready to go, if you have the ability perform a sensor clean beforehand as we will be working with apertures that will show dust spots. If you can’t get a clean beforehand then just be aware of this, and prepare to remove them in post.

Learn how to change the mode of your camera. Most people will probably use the TV or Shutter Priority mode for this day (unless doing portraits).
