Qld Interclub Competition 2021 subject definitions
DEFINITIONS FOR THE SUBJECTS IN THE 2021 QUEENSLAND INTER-CLUB PDI COMPETITION
People
A Photograph of a person or people that must show all of the person(s) from head to foot. (no head to waist close-ups)
The person(s) in the photograph must be the focal subject, however the image could also depict their environment or a broader scene. Can be posed or candid.
Must be a live human being (mannikins, statues or ornaments will not be accepted)
NATURE
Nature photography depicts living untamed animals and uncultivated plants in a natural habitat, geology and a wide diversity of natural phenomena, from insects to icebergs. Photographs of animals that are domesticated, caged or under any form of restraint, as well as photographs of cultivated plants are ineligible. Minimal evidence of humans is acceptable for nature subjects such as barn owls or storks adapting to an environment modified by humans, or natural forces such as hurricanes or tidal waves reclaiming it. The original image must have been taken by the photographer, whatever photographic medium is used. Any manipulation or modification to the original image is limited to minor retouching of blemishes and must not alter the content of the original scene.
SCAPES
An image featuring an expansive view without any subject dominating the scene.
OPEN – AB AND B GRADE
Any image taken by a photographer in AB and B grades. Clubs where club members are un-graded may submit 3 images by novice members.
BLACK AND WHITE
A monochrome grey scale image. It must not be colour toned.
ABSTRACT
An abstract image is an attempt to express an emotion, sensation or impression and does not attempt an accurate depiction of visual reality. It may involve the use of colour, light, shadow, texture or shape to achieve this.
An abstract image may isolate a fragment of a natural scene in order to remove its inherent context from the viewer.
It may be purposely staged to create a seemingly unreal appearance from real objects.
STILL LIFE
Still life photography is a genre of photography used for the depiction of inanimate subject matter, typically a small group of objects. Similar to still life painting, it is the application of photography to the still life artistic style. These can also include flowers and food.

Image challenge is back!
Courtesy of Margaret and Roberta, the Image Challenge competition shown on Skills Nights on the 4th Tuesday of each month, will recommence next year.
The Image Challenge is not a formal competition, but it is a chance to show off your skills and do a possible test run on how they look on the big screen as possible competition night entries. Enter your images on line via the website in the appropriate Skills Night section.
The Image Challenge has always been a bit of fun, and an enjoyable way to close the night on Skills Night meetings (thanks Graham Harris).
Below also is the list of competition night set subjects. IF YOU HAVEN’T YET DONE SO, go to the Club Information section on the website and read the 2021 documents. Members will be aware that many changes have been made, but not to image size or method of uploading for competition

Alice Black award entry on website
A couple of enterprising members have found an Alice Black award competition entry button for 2020.
Please note this is for administrative purposes for placing the Alice Black entries separately as each is given during the year as the best award by the competition judge, and for selecting the Alice Black Award of the Year by the EOY judge. This is yet to be completed and should not have been made visible to entrants.
Those who have placed entries perhaps thinking this is a separate competition, have had their entries removed.

Volunteers Needed!
It is that time again, TPS is looking for BBQ Volunteers for Sunday 29th November.
We will need 12 people divided over two shifts of 4-4.5 hours. We start at 7:30 am and finish about 4:30. Please indicate if you can help and your preference for morning or afternoon.
This is another big ask of our hard-working volunteers, I realise, but this is really great fundraising event for us. Thank you in advance. The Prez
