- Music – As a photographer can you meet the challenge of music?
Besides the obvious, photographing the making of music–musicians and concerts, instruments and equipment, I think music photography is also about capturing an artist’s “sound” in an image. A good music photo should communicate what the artist is about, not only what they sound like but also their personalities. But the end result needs to be generally pleasing, what appeals to some people will not appeal to others.
But don’t just stop there, or even start there. What makes music to your ears? I don’t want to put that in concrete terms, but there is music in nature, and to convey that in photography requires thought, planning and skill–oh yes, timing and opportunity.
2. Broken, Bent or Busted
Self explanatory perhaps, but everything bent isn’t busted, and everything broken, bent or busted may not appear to be, nor are they all “things”.

Set Subject: Shadows
Definition:
A shadow is the contour created when an object or person blocks rays of light from reaching a surface. The shape of a shadow changes based on its relationship with its light source. Decide how you aim to use the shadows. Do you want them to subtly accentuate a subject? Or do you wish to highlight their effect on it? Perhaps you want to create a composition entirely focused on them. The choice is yours! |

Set Subject: Garden City
Definition:
The “garden city” movement is a method of urban planning initiated by Sir Ebenezer Howard in 1898 in the United Kingdom. Garden cities were intended to be planned, self-contained communities surround by “greenbelts”, containing proportionate areas of residences, industry and agriculture. It is also the phrase used to describe Toowoomba. Use your imagination to capture the essence of the “Garden City”. |

Set Subject: Bokeh
Definition: Bokeh is the aesthetic quality of the blur produced in the out-of-focus parts of an image produced by a lens. Photographers sometimes deliberately use a shallow focus technique to create images with prominent out-of-focus regions.
Bokeh is often most visible around small background highlights, such as specular reflections and light sources, which is why it is often associated with such areas. However, bokeh is not limited to highlights; blur occurs in all out-of-focus regions of the image.
Judge: Gerard Saide, SSAPS PSQA

Set Subject: Still Life
Definition: A still life is a work of art depicting mostly inanimate subject matter, typically commonplace objects which are either natural (food, flowers, dead animals, plants, rocks, shells, etc.) or man-made (drinking glasses, books, vases, jewellery, coins, pipes, etc.).

Annual General Meeting (AGM) 6:30pm start.
Set Subject: Pets
A pet is an animal kept primarily for a person’s company, entertainment, or as an act of compassion such as taking in and protecting a hungry stray cat, rather than as a working animal, livestock or laboratory animal. Two of the most popular pets are dogs and cats. However, there are a range of other animals which are also kept as pets – rodents, birds, reptiles, fish, frogs and arthropods (insects, spiders and hermit crabs for example). Ideally for this set subject there should be evidence of human companionship.
Image Challenge: Country Road
Set Subject: Lineal
A less-commonly used word for linear, but not to be confused with Linear Photography only, which is the use of parallel lines to derive perspective. Lineal also means; relating to, or consisting of lines.
Your imagery should be made up of many strong lines, be they parallel or obtuse to each other. The element of lines must be the stronger part of the subject’s make up and be immediately recognised for this aspect. You may also have linear perspective in your image, as long as they are the strongest part of it. Keystoning can play a part in developing these lineal aspects and may even enhance the effect of parallel lines, but not seen as equally parallel. Architectural elements are easily the most thought of, when deriving linear or lineal aspect photography.
Image Challenge: Food Photography
Set Subject: Architecture
This includes buildings or structures, interior or exterior, and any part thereof; dynamic images of architecture or architectural details. It includes industrial, bridges, historical sites, buildings, interiors.
Panel Judges: Cheryl Bellette, Norm Luke, Veronica Sorely and John Stewart

Image Challenge: Clocks
Set Subject: Conceptual
Conceptual photography illustrates an idea. The subject of conceptual photography is often staged to represent an idea. The ‘concept’ is both ‘preconceived’ and, if successful, understandable in the completed image. It is most often seen in advertising where the picture may reiterate a headline or catchphrase that accompanies it.
Panel Judges: Sandra Neill, Andrew Raguse, Rowan Bestman
Image Challenge: Fences
Set Subject: Rust
The red or orange coating that forms on the surface of iron when exposed to air and moisture. Rusting leads to corrosion and destruction of the object. It is any film or coating on metal caused by oxidation.
Rust photography can include a whole object or part of an object that is rusted or rusting. It can also include macro images of rusted items and surfaces.
Rust can be used to describe things that are reddish-brown in colour
Rust is a disease which affects plants. It is caused by a fungus.
