Eclipse is a magical and immersive Luna Light Journey that will awaken
the Gardens nightly, from Friday 22 March until Saturday April 13.
Eclipse is presented by Toowoomba Regional Council and is created by
LASERVISION (the world’s leading creator of light, water, and sound
shows). Our Luna Light Journeys span Australia, are loved by the local
region, and often sell out well in advance of the final night of the
show.
Excitingly, this is the first Luna Light Journey we’ve created for the
Darling Downs/SQ Country region.
Media walk-through details:
* Date – Thursday 21 March (the night before opening night)
* Time – Arrive from 7:20pm for a 7:30pm start
* Location – Queens Park Botanic Gardens

Botanical Gardens on Lindsay Street. The group will be welcomed by

Everyone will be given a set of clues to help identify the the subjects to be photographed and the style of photography (high key, slow shutter speed, etc.). At the conclusion of the hunt a final clue will lead you to the venue for lunch and de-briefing. Treasure Hunt photos will be uploaded and judged by the Treasure Hunt organisers with points for correctly identified clues and photographic merit. Image Challenge: Repetition
Set Subject: Self Portrait
A Self-portrait is a representation of an artist photographed by the artist. The self-portrait is more than a selfie or snapshot because it is about capturing the essence of the artist’s identity and attitude and personality.
The self-portrait can be considered as an act of introspection, self-exploration or a visual diary.
Consideration needs to be given to background, dress and position, angle and can include several approaches – environmental, constructionist, candid and creative.
Judge: Bob Britcher AFIAP AAPS PSQA
The image challenge is “Then and now – Diptych”
The topic if “Introduction to post-processing software – pros and cons of various packages”, presented by Veronica Sorley
Image Challenge: Then and Now (Diptych)
Set Subject: Antique
An antique has value because of its aesthetic or historical significance, and its age, beauty, and rarity. Something may be very old, but uninteresting or very common, and the key is to find something that you can photograph well.
How old is antique, there is the saying, “Grandmothers are antique little girls.” But we who are in that age of life may not like being called elderly, let alone antique. However, what about some genuinely elderly people approaching the age of antique (100 years) with their beautiful wrinkles?
Judge: John Stewart SSAPS AAPS PSQA
Image Challenge: Contre-jour
Set Subject: Lineal
A less-commonly used word for linear, but not to be confused with Linear Photography only, which is the use of parallel lines to derive perspective. Lineal also means; relating to, or consisting of lines.
Your imagery should be made up of many strong lines, be they parallel or obtuse to each other. The element of lines must be the stronger part of the subject’s make up and be immediately recognised for this aspect. You may also have linear perspective in your image, as long as they are the strongest part of it. Keystoning can play a part in developing these lineal aspects and may even enhance the effect of parallel lines, but not seen as equally parallel. Architectural elements are easily the most thought of, when deriving linear or lineal aspect photography.
Judge: Tryg Helander AAPS PSQA
Image Challenge: Odd one out
Set Subject: Dominant Colour
The key colour is the main colour in an image. Often, the key colour in an image is that which is the most dominant. Allowing one colour to dominate can lead to a powerful image. This is stronger when a primary colour (red, blue or yellow) is the dominant colour.
The colour can be but does not have to be 100% of the image. Images can be created in natural light, filtered studio light, a filter on the lens or manipulated in Photoshop. These can also be called monochromatic.
Judge: Victoria Purdie AFIAP AAPS PSQA
Image Challenge: Forced Perspective
