Notice to members
Dear Members,
On behalf of your Committee, I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to all of you for your outstanding entries in our recent competitions. As the President of the Toowoomba Photographic Society (and fellow member / photographer), I am consistently amazed by the level of talent, creativity, and dedication displayed in your images, compositions, artistic expressions, and narratives.
Undoubtedly, judging nights can be an emotionally charged experience. It’s natural to feel a mix of excitement and anxiety as we eagerly await our image scores and the feedback provided by the judges. There are times when our work may not align with a particular judge’s preferences, leaving us disheartened and questioning the worth of our efforts. I understand the feelings of sadness, anger, and frustration that can arise from such experiences. It is important to remember that we have all encountered such setbacks at some point in our photographic journey.
Personally, I find it helpful to recognise that judges bring their own unique perspectives, preferences, and biases to the table. While we may not always agree with their critiques (or sometimes not find any value in them at all), there is often something to be gleaned from their assessments through the course of the night. I encourage you to consider the feedback provided and identify elements that could enhance your future work. Each judging session presents an opportunity for growth and learning.
Even in the face of disappointment, I urge you not to allow judgings to stifle your passion, creativity, and love for photography. It may sometimes seem as though judges are undermining our efforts, but I assure you that is not their intention. Most judges genuinely aim to help us improve and evolve in our craft. If any of us were to believe we have nothing left to learn, we would risk becoming complacent and losing our passion altogether.
Remember, we all cherish the opportunity to admire your work and witness your boundless creativity. I implore you to continue exploring, capturing, and challenging yourself to achieve that elusive “perfect photo.”
Thank you for your unwavering dedication to the art of photography.
Regards,
Travis – President

Acknowledgment of Donation to TPS
Dear Members of the Toowoomba Photographic Society,
We are delighted to express our heartfelt appreciation to Gary Cullinan for his generous donation to our society. Gary’s thoughtful contribution of a beautiful glass cabinet and a wheeled trolley signifies a significant show of support for the Toowoomba Photographic Society, and we are truly grateful for his kind act.
The glass cabinet and wheeled trolley generously donated by Gary would have provided us with an excellent storage solution for our treasured trophies. We genuinely value his dedication to our organization.
Unfortunately, we have been unable to utilize it as intended. Due to tight space constraints at DeMolay, we have been unable to fit it into our store room. As a result, the owners of DeMolay have respectfully requested its removal due to safety concerns for their patrons. To ensure the continued use of the hall, we must comply with their request promptly.
While this situation is regrettable, we want to emphasize that our gratitude to Gary remains unwavering. We highly value donations and acts of service, as they contribute significantly to the growth and success of the Toowoomba Photographic Society. The trophy cabinet would have been a beautiful solution for storing and displaying the many current and historical trophies and memorabilia of the Toowoomba Photographic Society.
To ensure the best possible outcome for all parties involved, we kindly request that any donations and acts of service be coordinated through our committee. You can contact any member of the committee directly or use our group email committee@tpsi.org.au, and a member will promptly get back to you.
Once again, thank you, Gary Cullinan, for your unwavering support. We deeply appreciate your generosity and the positive impact it has on our society.

Going through images submitted into the AI Challenge and general discussion.
by Travis Lord, July 4, 2023
TPS AI Challenge
A couple weeks ago we had a zoom meeting about the state of AI tools in photoshop and similar applications. We had a great response on the night and opened up a challenge for members.
Currently there are limited entries into this challenge, so we’ve opened it up so that members can now submit one entry for all 3 images to total 3 entries (rather than just one in total). Entries will be shown on Zoom this Tuesday 04/07.
So jump in and get your creative juices flowing:
Information and resources about the AI Challenge here:
Welcome to the first TPS AI Challenge. Here you have the opportunity to show your creativity using the various AI tools now available to photographers and creatives alike.
Some examples being: Photoshop Beta AI Generative fill, AI Noise Reduction, Neural Filters, AI Sharpening and many others.
See here for further details about photoshop’s new tools, other applications may have similar functionality:
https://www.adobe.com/au/sensei.html
https://helpx.adobe.com/au/photoshop/using/generative-fill.html
You have three base images to work from, these have been supplied by members of TPS so you are NOT permitted to use these in social media or in any other location with the exception of this MyPhotoClub setup.
Check out the recording of our meeting about AI here:

Image 3: https://toowoomba.myphotoclub.com.au/wp-content/uploads/sites/111/myphotoclub/reference/Image3.jpg
Each image will have a separate competition to upload to.
You may download the original image, and make any modification to it, provided you use the AI tools available within Photoshop or your relevant editing program.
Once you have completed your edit, upload it to MPC and we will then display the works over zoom on the 04/05/2023. Author statements have been enabled for your uploads so please use this to describe the modifications you have made and which tools were used.
You are permitted to use Generative Fill tools using stock imagery or prompts in this “competition” only.
