I wish to thank everyone who entered into the first Trans-Tasman competition with our friends from Howick for 2022.

Standings:

1H21 – Our town – Winner: Toowoomba

2H21 – My Springtime – Winner: Howick

1H22 – Nature – Winner: Howick

Last nights judging was performed by Anne Pappalardo from Brisbane and Elizabeth Passuello from New Zealand. Both judges put in a monstrous effort in not only scoring the images, but preparing exceptional feedback for all images shown. They spent a lot of time explaining to us how “Nature” photography would be judged in an “international” sense and how certain elements, composition and in some cases image titling can have a impact to an images eligibility.

The competition was fiercely contended throughout the night with Howick coming out on top. We now have the opportunity to set the subject for the 2H22 comp and we’re definitely going to find a subject to challenge our NZ friends.

We should be proud of our efforts, with 96% of images entered coming from our B and A grade’s, opposed to Howick’s 40% from their C and B grades.

Special mention to Pete McDonald receiving the highest marks from Toowoomba from both Judges and a 9/10 from Elizabeth with a total of 15 for his image Wilpena Pound at Dawn after the Rain, and Dianne Horrocks having received a 9/10 from Anne but also getting a total score of 14 from both Judges for her image My Breakfast.

For anyone interested, all of the images entered onto MyPhotoClub by members were scored by all members of our Committee and the top 30 images from the collective scores were entered into the competition against Howick.

Below is a breakdown of the images and scores received:

Please keep in mind that a number of images the judges explained were amazing captures, but that they did not fit into the nature category and as such scored them lower.

For future competitions I have recommended we use different naming criteria to allow for more freedom and a broader range of images.
